The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, part of the Auberge Resorts Collection and a premier culinary destination on California’s Central Coast, proudly announces the appointments of Executive Chef Joseph Humphrey and Food & Beverage Director Adrien Cuenin. With their combined expertise and passion for regional cuisine, they are set to elevate the property’s acclaimed dining and beverage offerings, ensuring exceptional and memorable guest experiences.

Chef Joseph Humphrey brings over three decades of culinary expertise, having worked with the renowned Brennan family in New Orleans and held key roles alongside celebrated chefs Bradley Ogden and Michael Mina in San Francisco. His impressive career includes earning Michelin stars at The Restaurant at Meadowood and Cavallo Point, the latter of which he opened, as well as leading top Bay Area restaurants, a major restaurant group, and a fine dining consulting firm. Most recently, Humphrey consulted for Bishop’s Lodge and Hotel Jerome, both part of the Auberge Resorts Collection. Originally from Tallahassee, Florida, and a long-time resident of the Bay Area, Humphrey enjoys coastal living, gardening, and amateur auto mechanics. As Executive Chef, he will oversee the four dining venues at The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, including The Tavern, the signature restaurant that showcases the region’s rich bounty with rustic yet refined dishes.

Adrien Cuenin, newly appointed Director of Food & Beverage, brings extensive experience from his recent role as Assistant Director of Food & Beverage at Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection in Hawaii. Born in Miami and raised between Florida and France, Cuenin comes from a family deeply rooted in hospitality. His career includes roles at Universal Studios in both Orlando and Hollywood, as well as leadership positions at SLS Beverly Hills, where he supported Chef José Andrés’ culinary vision and contributed to the success of the two-Michelin-starred Somni. Outside of work, Cuenin enjoys soccer, pickleball, and global travel. His international background and profound understanding of the Auberge brand make him the perfect fit to lead the property’s food and beverage program.

Humphrey and Cuenin will collaborate to lead the food and beverage team at The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, ensuring that every dining experience reflects the property’s rich heritage and deep connection to the surrounding region. Their combined efforts will further position The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, Auberge Resorts Collection, as a premier gastronomic destination in Central Coast wine country.
